AI Takes Center Stage in La Velada del Año 6 Website Development, Fueling Open Source Collaboration and Major Recruitment Drive
The highly anticipated La Velada del Año 6, the boxing event organized by streamer Ibai Llanos, is getting its official website built with an AI-first development approach. The lead developer is leveraging advanced AI assistants like Cursor (with GPT 5.5 Extra and Opus 4.7 models), Codex, and Open Code to construct the site using Astro and Tailwind CSS. This initiative is entirely open-source, hosted on GitHub, and has already garnered 295 contributors, building on experience from previous Velada editions. A key aspect of the project is a significant recruitment drive in partnership with Infojobs, aiming to hire four developers (two by Infojobs, two by the project lead) from a pool of over 30,000 applicants for two-week remote contracts, prioritizing demonstrable knowledge over traditional professional experience. A future project for a ‘world champion international footballer’s’ website was also hinted at, along with additional Infojobs job opportunities.
The development process highlights an iterative loop with AI, tackling challenges from asset optimization to complex UI/UX design. Images are converted to WebP/AVIF and scaled for performance, while videos are optimized for WebM. The team is meticulously handling SVG logos, ensuring proper viewboxes and currentColor usage. AI agents are tasked with creating components, managing styles, and even automating semantic Git commits via custom commands. Despite AI’s capabilities, the workflow is not without its hurdles; the developer noted instances where AI-generated designs required significant manual correction and prompt refinement—even leading to the AI model expressing ‘frustration’ when feedback was critical. This back-and-forth illustrates the current state of AI-assisted development, where human oversight and clear, specific instructions remain crucial for achieving desired aesthetic and functional outcomes.
